Antigue gun sales questions

My mother is considering selling dad's collection.
Kentucky/Pennsylvania blackpowder flintlocks/ percussion caps
Civil war long guns
1890's Winchesters and Marlins
and some other very interesting long guns.

My concerns, fair and honest appraisals, how to sell and of course the current antique gun market...in this economy we would be lucky to sell a Red Rider Daisy BB Gun???

I've checked several Antigue gun websites, but I'm very skeptical.

I can easily photo and catalog this inventory for these dealers, but still question their integrity.

Any help from the "Old gun" pros would be much appreciated.
Thanks, brewer

The best you can do is pick up a 'current' copy of a Firearm Catalogue or an Antique Arms price guide.

Comparison to other muskets for sale is the best on the Civil War and earlier varieties. They should run in the $800 to $2000+ range for really good specimens.

Antique guns are not like any antique - their values hold and especially with makers like Colt, Winchester, etc.

I don't see any price drops for these makers.........but it's just a casual observation and I make no claims of being an 'expert' .

If you really want to feel spiffy you can price them out in gold bullion, and look for what they were going for originally. That can be your floor. Since the value of gold doesn't really change, just the value of the dollar, it could be an interesting way to help you translate what you're looking for. But you'd have to go through the historical narriatives and find out what the prices were back then.

Personally I think this is a bad time to sell precious antiques. People are too predatory right now

put em on gunbroker. With lots of pics. Also go around to some gun forums and talk about them. Try ar15.com if you can stand the neocons.

If it was me...I'd look in the back of ShotGun News at the big antique firearm auctions. Then I'd call several of those auctioneers. They get the audience you want, serious collectors. Big auctioneers are honest, they have to be to protect their reputation, it keeps the prices high!

.Or you could sell it all to me for a couple of hundred bucks!
